Two surprising stats to me ...  70% of marketers use a blog which is second to 71% using visual content but here's the rub ... only 50% of those marketers with a blog - have a mobile friendly blog. I guess they are not reading my blog :-) Here are six main points from the 2014 social marketing research: Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn hold the top spots for future plans: A significant 66% of marketers plan on increasing their use of these social networks. Marketers want to learn most about Facebook: While 93% of marketers are using Facebook, 68% want to learn more about it and 62% plan on increasing Facebook activities. Video becoming important: A significant 57% of marketers use video in their marketing; however, 72% want to learn more about video marketing and plan on increasing their use of video. Podcasting on growth trajectory: Only 10% of marketers are involved with podcasting, yet 26% plan on increasing their podcasting activities and 43% of marketers want to learn m...

Research: social media - how it helps grow a business

Image
We’ve all heard about the importance of social media marketing. But if you think good social media eliminates the need for a great product, great customer service or other traditional marketing, think again. Vaynerchuk helped grow his family business, Shoppers Discount Liquors in Springfield, NJ, from a $3 million retail store to a $60 million success story. And he says social media was only part, though a very important part, of the process. As Vaynerchuk recalls, it didn’t start with a video blog or the trendy social sharing so often talked about today. It started with good old fashioned sales and customer service. He explains: “That was done through operations. That was me on the floor selling more. Then the website kicked in the momentum in 2000, 2001, 2002. Then search marketing 2002, 2003, 2004. Then kind of like just fixing, getting better at it in 2004, 2005. And then in 2006 started Wine Library TV which took it to the next place. And the reason it gets so much credit...

42% of online adults use multiple social networking sites, but Facebook remains the platform of choice. Some 73% of online adults now use a social networking site of some kind.1 Facebook is the dominant social networking platform in the number of users, but a striking number of users are now diversifying onto other platforms. Some 42% of online adults now use multiple social networking sites. In addition, Instagram users are nearly as likely as Facebook users to check in to the site on a daily basis. These are among the key findings on social networking site usage and adoption from a new survey from the Pew Research Center’s Internet Project. While Facebook is popular across a diverse mix of demographic groups, other sites have developed their own unique demographic user profiles. For example, Pinterest holds particular appeal to female users (women are four times as likely as men to be Pinterest users), and LinkedIn is especially popular among college graduates and internet user...

Social Media: a new study shows that a popular boy band is the most influential tweeter in UK

Image
Every single member of the boyband One Direction are considered more influential in the UK than the Prime Minister, the Mayor of London and a number of other high-profile politicians and journalists, according to a new Twitter index. Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson each scored 98 out of a possible 100 in terms of influence, with Zayn Malik in fifth place on 97. The scores are calculated based on how much other Twitter users retweet and engage with the tweeter and isn’t based purely on how many followers they have. Prime Minister David Cameron, for example, scored the same amount of points as Zayn Malik but has fewer than 500k followers, compared to the 3 million or more of Piers Morgan behind him in eighth place. The rest of the top 10 is made up of musician Ed Sheeran, columnist Caitlin Moran and comedian Ricky Gervais. PeerIndex studied over 10 billion tweets from 150 million people to compile the Twitter 140. For the ratings, Peerindex focused on whether ...

Social media spreads the good and the hoax - are people being dumbed down or just bored?

Fake Apple ads touting the new operating system’s ability to make iPhones waterproof have made the social media rounds and gullible consumers are buying it. The ads are designed to look uncannily like actual advertisements for the new iOS 7 that came out along with the new iPhone 5s and 5c. The new update does many things, improved multitasking and camera function among them, but waterproofing your new $200 phone is definitely not one of them. Though, if the response on Twitter the new fake feature is any indication, Apple stores may soon be inundated by waterlogged handsets. One key to the deception, which the Daily Dot reports originated on 4Chan and spread to other social media, is in its deception. ‘With the new features and groundbreaking innovation of iOS 7,’ reads one of the nine ads, this one titled Additional Protection, ‘your iPhone is able to instantly detect changes in thermo-distribution with the touch sensitive screen and home button.’ Water splashes on and ...

Search Engine Presence: if your SEO program is on auto pilot you are shrinking your online presence

Image
Search Engine Presence: if your SEO program is on auto pilot you are shrinking your online presence Let’s be clear, to qualify your site as having an existing online marketing program or internet marketing plan there must be - at a bare minimum - these characteristics: A key word phrase implemented on individual web pages You have an active blogging presence You are regularly posting in social media networks Your pages offer at least one connection opportunity to visitors You provide visitors opportunities to satisfy that “impulse buy” factor with your online store There are plenty of SEO tools and software programs out there that can help automate some of the aspects of your SEO program, freeing up your valuable time so you can focus more on other SEO-related tasks like content creation and blogger outreach that can’t (and shouldn’t) be automated. I’m all for finding new ways to be more efficient and maximize the return for my time, but site owners need to be careful ...
